Trekking
Since always a holiday in Liguria is associated to the sea, but now we have to consider also the spreading tendency to visit the region to enjoy the natural beauties that the region offers: thanks to the National Park of Cinque Terre and to the numerous Natural reserves, Liguria has becoming more and more important for trekking.
Its breathtaking panoramas and the unspoiled nature can be discovered only walking along the old mule-tracks, which until few years ago were prerogative of the local people, linking the several coastal towns and finding their most important example in the territory of Cinque Terre. The 30 square Kilometres of this area are marked by a close net of footpaths, mule tracks and staircases that you have to walk slowly, step by step.
You can choose between the famous “Blue Trail”, linking all the towns of Cinque Terre, and the so-named “Sanctuary road”, linking the small churches built behind the five villages. Some of these tracks follow old Roman roads and the Francigena, the ancient medieval road that Pilgrims walked to reach Rome.
